Artist Statement: 1-25-06
In the moment a brush touches canvas a larger Reality is revealed. Who am I to speak with the brilliance of that color? The red paints itself.
There is no idea factory inside my head where I can be sure of how each and every inspired thought finds its way through to the world. The Reality is that I do nothing but pay attention and enjoy when Art happens. It flows through so smoothly that I can only know it to be the workings of a deeper part of myself where I no longer identify with thoughts. Instead, I watch and herd them back towards rolling green pastures.
I watch the mixing of paint or the sharpening of a pencil and See that these materials are but mediums - the banks of a river so to speak. They exist tangibly in our world only to give form to a fluid and intangible consciousness.
I watch a line dance and See that the me in this world is no different from the paint or pencil. I exist in this world, tangibly, only to give form to the intangible.
In this light, the artwork I have facilitated reveals something of its inner workings and history. To tell herein what those workings and histories are, though, would be presumptuous on my part. Those words would be attempts at herding your thoughts and giving form to your intangibility. I can only hope, instead, that I have played my part well and a mutual recognition of our Selves as intangible is sparked.
